Optimistic Suburbia? - The Students' Perspective

Exhibition in Hestnes Ferreira Gallery, ISCTE-IUL

The exposition Optimistic Suburbia - Students' Experience was designed for the Hestnes Ferreira gallery of ISCTE- University Institute of Lisbon. Twenty-three tons of bricks were deployed as support for the exhibition contents. The blocks bricks evoke the experience and the brutality of suburbia's buildings. At the entrance of the exhibition, two blocks of bricks create a tension revealing texts and drawings about a research made by architecture students about outskirts' territories. Other brick pallets were used as autonomous objects in the exhibition, receiving models and drawings on its top. The brick red color contrasts with the smoothness of the white concrete that characterizes the exhibition room.  The weirdness of the heavy brick blocks contributes for the exhibition atmosphere, inviting people to dive in suburbia.
